Three more days of Buffy!
Day 20: My Favorite Willow Moment

From Innocence:
Giles: If only we knew how it happened. (sits on the table)
Buffy: What do you mean?
Giles: Well, something set it off. Some, some, uh, event must've
triggered his transformation. Well, if anyone would know, Buffy, it-it
should be you.
Buffy: I don't.
Giles: Well, did anything happen last night that, that might...
Buffy: Giles, please, I can't. (runs from the library)
Giles: Buffy, I'm sorry, but we can't afford to... Buffy!
Willow: (watching Buffy run) Giles, shut up.
Don't be fooled by the fact that I have multiple moments for Giles and Xander and only one for Willow. It doesn't mean I love her less. It's just that this is head-and-shoulders-above-the-rest my favorite moment of hers.
I love this moment of Willow's because it shows the depth of empathy she's capable of. At that moment her heart is entirely feeling Buffy's pain. And she can't stand hearing Giles continue his line of questioning when she knows that it hurts Buffy.
Here, Willow ceases being the computer whiz and budding wicca. She ceases being the girl who's obsessive about solving problems and doing her best and controlling every situation. Here, she's just Buffy's best friend--standing up for her BFF, protecting her, trying to be what Buffy needs in that moment. She's selfless.
Day 21: My Favorite Xander Moments

I have three of these. And at least two of the three might seem strange--but let me explain.
From Gone:
BUFFY: Can I help you?
MS. KROGER: I'm Doris Kroger, from Social Services. (displaying her ID badge) We had an appointment?
BUFFY: Oh, for Wednesday.
MS. KROGER: This is Wednesday.
Buffy looks at Xander, who nods.
I love Xander here so much. Buffy's such a mess, and he knows it. She's forgetting appointments; she can't keep her days straight. And the utterly helpless way she looks to Xander for some sort of outside confirmation on the day of the week--oh, my poor Buffalo--so lost. But I love, love the quiet, nonjudgmental way that Xander provides that confirmation. He's her anchor, keeping her from drifting completely out to sea. But he doesn't even say anything. Just nods and offers quiet support--tries to keep from embarrassing Buffy in front of the social worker. Tries to help her make a good impression. It's just so sweet. I love it.
From Once More with Feeling:
XANDER: You want some breakfast, baby?
ANYA: You don't have to go to work?
XANDER: Nah, I shut the crew down for the day. My guys start dancing around me, I don't know if I can deal. It's a flab thing. So, waffles?
ANYA: Will you still make me waffles when we're married?
XANDER: No, I'll only make them for myself, but by California law, you will own half of them. (kisses her) Hey, how about omelettes? I could do an omelette.
I love these little snippets we get to see of Xander and Anya. Because there are so few of them. We usually get to see them bickering--so it's really lovely every now and then to see them being sweet to each other. And I love his little joke about her owning half his waffles. That's the kind of thing that makes it possible to spend the rest of your life with someone--when they make silly little jokes about waffles.
From Spiral:
Cut to Spike's bloody, bandaged hands as he tries to light a cigarette. He fumbles with the lighter.
We see that we're in the back room. It's dark. Xander stands watching the tied-up general as the sound of Spike trying to light his lighter continues.
SPIKE: (whispering) Ow.
Spike shakes his hand in pain and annoyance.
Xander walks over. Spike gives him a wary look. Xander takes the lighter. Spike sighs.
SPIKE: Thanks.
Xander flicks the lighter on and holds it up to Spike's cigarette, lighting it. Then Xander closes the lighter, puts it in his pocket as Spike takes a drag.
XANDER: You know, those things'll kill you.
Spike gives him a look.
XANDER: Oh. Right.
They stand side by side, leaning against the wall, as Spike smokes.
XANDER: I mention today how much I don't like you?
SPIKE: (nods) You mighta let it slip in ... (looks at Xander) once or twice.
Xander smiles slightly, looks down at Spike's hands.
XANDER: How're your feelers?
Xander's really a big softy. I wish he'd let that show more often.
Day 22: My Favorite Giles Moments

From Innocence:
Buffy: You must be so disappointed in me.
Giles: No. (she looks at him) No, no, I'm not.
Buffy: But this is all my fault.
Giles: No. I don't believe it is. Do you want me to wag my finger at you and tell you that you acted rashly? You did. A-and I can. I know that you loved him. And... he... has proven more than once that he loved you. You couldn't have known what would happen. The coming months a-are gonna, are gonna be hard... I, I suspect on all of us, but... if it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support. And my respect.
And from Flooded:
GILES: (smiling) Oh God, Buffy.
He hugs her. She hugs him back, closes her eyes.
GILES: You're alive. You're here. And you're still ... (strained) ...remarkably strong.
BUFFY: Huh? Oh. (lets him go) Sorry.
GILES: Willow told me, but I didn't really let myself believe ...
BUFFY: I take a little getting used to. I'm still getting used to me.
GILES: It's, uh ... you're ...
BUFFY: A miracle?
GILES: Yes. But then, I always thought so.
I don't think either of these Giles moments need any explanation.
You may have noticed a pattern here. I like things when they get all lovey-dovey, when the characters are compassionate toward each other. That's when they fill my heart with all sorts of gooey feelings.
